Humans of Canines helps families ‘start right’ with new their new puppy, and also with adolescent and adult dogs, by providing basic obedience training. The goal of the training progam is to help people communicate with their dog effectively, thereby building a strong relationship through mutual understanding and positive reinforcement.

The approach towards training a dog is gentle, effective, enjoyable, and designed to be easily mastered by all members of the family, youngsters especially. Some of the topics addressed in the private and group training sessions are:

  •  Housetraining
  •  How to prevent and resolve common puppy issues like nipping, inappropriate chewing, 
excessive barking, and jumping up
  •  Teaching your dog to come when called, sit, down, stand, stay, and leash manners
  •  Impulse control
  •  Fear and anxiety prevention
  • Trainer moderated play groups for socialisation and fun

    Animal Assisted Activity & Education

    HoC uses dogs in recreational and visitation programs to help adults and children deal with wide range of issues such as stress related to exams, work or day to day activities.
These activities may include dog petting sessions, group training sessions, entertainment session through tricks performed by dogs, and story telling sessions with dogs, thereby enabling healthy canine-human interaction. These workshops may be combined with movement, art and music and can be designed to suit the school curriculum.

      Creative Movement Therapy

      Creative Movement Therapy is a form of expression which uses natural dance movements to achieve a balance between emotional, congnitive, social and physical facets of individuals. The movement therapy workshop has fun-filled activities for children and adults which involves- dance, music, drama, painting and various other games. The workshop caters to specific needs of individuals and groups, helping break the barriers of verbal communication; creating a new language of self-expression through art, music and movement.  The workshops focus on the following :-

      • Creativity and Imagination
      • Body Coordination

      Animal Assisted Therapy

      Animal-assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals, such as dogs, into the treatment plan. It is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional therapy. Studies have found animal-assisted therapy sessions very effective in improving overall emotional well-being, especially in cases of autism, schizophrenia, depression, other medical conditions, or behavioral issues.

      Humans of Canines works closely with psychologists and other mental health professionals in conducting individual animal assisted therapy sessions. As a part of this initiative, Humans of Canines also conducts tests to identify ‘therapy’ dogs.
